To help Austinites at risk of losing their rental housing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Austin has created the Relief of Emergency Needs for Tenants (RENT) Assistance Program. Renters who think they may be eligible must apply for the RENT Assistance Program online at Austin.gov/RENT.

All clients will be screened for eligibility prior to booking an appointment and will be required to complete a health screening upon arrival. Appointments for completing RENT 2.0 applications will be happening at both Prosper Center – North (5900 Airport Blvd. Austin, TX 78752, Bus Routes: 7, 337, 350) and Prosper Center – South (2900 S IH 35 Frontage Rd Austin, TX 78704, Bus Routes: 300) starting Monday, November 2. Hours of operation: Monday/Wednesday from 3 – 7pm and Tuesday/Thursday from 10am – 2pm.

Who’s eligible?

The funds will help income-eligible tenants in the City of Austin who:

– Live within Austin’s full purpose city limits & make 80% or less of the Median Family Income (MFI).For example: 4-person household would need to make an annual income of $78,100 or less to qualify.

– Are currently on a lease or contractually bound relationship & not already recipients of federal rental assistance programs.

– Have documentation showing that COVID-19 has affected them financially (e.g., paystubs, unemployment notice, notice of rent due, etc.).

How does it work?

Eligible applicants will be randomly selected, and if qualified, RENT assistance will be for the full amount of the selected applicant’s rent and paid directly to the renter’s landlord.
