Free Tax Help

Extended filing deadline for Texans:

The IRS has extended the deadline to June 15 for Texans to file tax returns and pay any tax due. The Prosper Tax Help program will be open through June 15, 2021.

The Prosper Tax Help Program is operating with limited capacity this season due to COVID-19.

Please know that we remain committed to providing you with free, high quality tax preparation services. Here’s the best way to proceed: We first recommend you try signing up for our tax preparation services through our online platform. You’ll answer questions and upload photos of your documents by taking pictures on your smartphone device. Our IRS-certified team of tax preparers will take it from there. We will contact you throughout the process to ensure we have received all your tax documents and any other information we need.

If you are unable to navigate our online platform, we have a very limited number of in-person Drop Off intake appointments at our Prosper Center North and Prosper Center South locations. We are currently accepting names on our Appointment Waitlist, but we are receiving more requests than we will be able to accommodate this tax season and we want to be open about that. During this pandemic, Foundation Communities is committed to the safety of our staff and clients. Please know we’re doing everything we can to serve the community well, given the resources we have available. We appreciate your patience this season while we are operating under such a limited capacity.

If waiting to file your tax return is not an option, please click here to view other tax preparation options we recommend.

This season, the fastest method for the Prosper Tax Help to prepare your tax return is through our online platform. Our program has partnered with GetYourRefund.org to allow taxpayers to sign up for our tax preparation services online.

  1. 1. Go to GetYourRefund.org/FC.
  2. 2. Answer questions and upload your tax documents by taking pictures on your smartphone device.
  3. 3. Our IRS-certified team of tax preparers will take it from there! We will contact you throughout the process to ensure we have received all your tax documents and any other information we need.

When signing up on the online platform, if there are any questions you don’t know the answer to, please pick the best option and continue the sign-up process. Our staff will verify the answers with you over the phone once we begin your tax return. If you need to upload additional documents, our team will also contact you to provide instructions.

Please note: We are currently experiencing a high volume of traffic. When you sign up through the GetYourRefund.org/FC link you may receive the message that we are “at capacity.” You can continue to click through to “File with help.” We will attend to your case as soon as is possible for us. Thank you for your patience – we look forward to working with you!

The Prosper Tax Help centers are not accepting walk-ins this year.

For taxpayers who cannot access our online service, we have a limited number of appointments available at the following locations:

Prosper South (New!) – 2900 S. IH 35, Austin, TX, 78704 (Mondays-Saturdays)

Prosper North – 5900 Airport Blvd, Austin, TX, 78752 (Mondays-Saturdays)

To schedule an appointment, you may call us at 512-610-7374. We will add your information to our appointment waiting list. Because we are receiving more appointment requests than we are able to accommodate, we will send a text message update once a week to confirm you are on the waiting list. We will also provide information about other available tax preparation resources. We recognize that we will not be able to meet the demand this year, and we want to be open about that.

Appointments are for intake only. Your tax return will not be completed during your visit. We will scan all documents and complete an intake interview. Our staff will then call you when your tax return is ready to schedule a follow-up appointment for tax return signature and pickup. Due to COVID developments, we will be using a curbside appointment model until further notice. This means you will stay in your car for the duration of your appointment.

To cancel an appointment, you may call us at 512-610-7374 or email taxes@foundcom.org.

Please note, the following locations are CLOSED for the 2021 tax season: Round Rock Public Library, Southeast Health & Wellness Center, LifeWorks East Office, Asian American Resource Center, People’s Community Clinic.

Prosper Tax Help offers tax services for individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind.

ASL interpreters are available by appointment at our Prosper South location (New!) – 2900 S. IH 35, Austin, TX 78704, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays 12-5pm Wednesdays 1-6pm, from January 20 – April 15.

Prefer not to visit in person? This year, Prosper Tax Help is offering online tax preparation. To sign up, go to GetYourRefund.org/FC. When given space to leave notes on the website, please request ASL interpretation. We will follow up to set a date and time for a video call with an ASL interpreter.

The Prosper Tax Help program income limits have changed as of August 2020. The Tax Help program accepts anyone willing to travel to Austin for tax preparation assistance who meets the income eligibility of $50,000 for a single individual or $75,000 for a family of 2-4 people. We increase the annual income limit by $5,000 for each additional dependent for families of 5 or more. Note: The income limit is waived for staff and residents of Foundation Communities, and for current or retired military personnel.
